Yoga - good for the soul (and for your running?)

This week I am currently enrolled in a free trial week at a local yoga studio. A friend of mine invited me and I was hesitant at first because it's on the other side of town and I feared I wouldn't have time to actually attend the classes. I have done yoga before but it's been many years. I have been twice already and I have to say that I absolutely love it. I am already checking the schedule to see when I can fit in another class.

For me, yoga seems to be the perfect balance to running. Running is very "go, go, go" while yoga is peaceful and mellow. It strengthens my muscles which will only help to improve my body for running. I had a bit of a hectic weekend and escaping to yoga during nap time on Saturday afternoon was so refreshing. It got me out of the house, away from the chaos and into a nice workout for my body and mind.

I will be very sad for this free week to end, but hope that when my financial situation improves that I can try and attend some yoga on a regular basis.

Runners:
Do you do yoga?
Do you feel like it improves your running?
What other "non-running" workouts do you recommend?

  1. I really need to get back into yoga. At our last location, my neighbor was a yoga master and we'd have impromptu classes all the time.

I wasn't running then, so I can't really say if it improved it.

Non Running workouts, I mountain bike. I have been mountain biking for the last 1.5 years and when I started back to running a few weeks ago it was easier than I remembered. However, running on roads isn't very helpful for mountain biking. So I'm going to start trying to run trails more.
